Spring in Southwest Florida (Spring Break Season)
Spring is easily the most popular season to visit Southwest Florida.
The weather is just about perfect. Warm days, comfortable evenings, and beautiful beach sunsets. It’s no surprise families choose this time for vacations and beach photos.
But popularity does come with a few trade-offs.
Restaurants can be packed. Traffic getting on and off the islands can take longer than usual. And reservations become your best friend.
Locals often joke that we don’t go out to eat “in season.”
Still, there’s a reason it’s busy.
It’s really, really nice here this time of year.
As a Fort Myers Beach photographer, this is also when my sunset photo sessions fill up the fastest because so many families want to capture their vacation memories while they’re here.
The Secret Season: Summer in Southwest Florida
Now here’s the secret locals know.
Summer in Southwest Florida is amazing.
We’re big boaters in our family, and honestly we usually don’t take the boat out much during winter. But summer? That’s when the water is perfect.
Yes, it gets hot.
Yes, we sometimes get quick afternoon showers.
But the sun feels incredible, the water is warm, and the crowds disappear.
The beaches are quieter.
Restaurants are easier to get into.
Stores aren’t packed.
It’s a completely different pace, and it’s really lovely.
Fall in Southwest Florida
Fall might actually be one of the most underrated times to visit Southwest Florida.
Kids are back in school. Snowbirds haven’t arrived yet. And the weather is still beautiful.
You get many of the same warm beach days as spring without the crowds. It can be a wonderful time to explore Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel Island, and Captiva at a more relaxed pace.
Winter in Southwest Florida
Believe it or not… winter can feel cold to us locals.
When the high dips to around 60 degrees, we start reaching for sweaters.
But every time I talk to my dad in Pennsylvania and we compare temperatures, I’m quickly reminded that what we call cold here is still pretty comfortable compared to most of the country.
Winter also brings some of Southwest Florida’s most charming traditions.
Events like:
-
The Sanibel & Captiva Luminary Festival
-
Holiday lights at Chapel by the Sea
The holiday season here has its own kind of magic.
Planning a Spring Break Trip to Southwest Florida
Right now, though, we are firmly in spring break season.
That means beautiful weather… and full calendars.
Just like restaurants and beaches get busy, my photography schedule tends to fill up quickly this time of year as families plan their beach vacations.
If you’re visiting Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel, Captiva, or anywhere in Southwest Florida, my advice is simple:
-
Make dinner reservations early
-
Plan your activities ahead of time
-
And if you’re thinking about family photos, schedule them in advance
Sunset sessions during spring break are some of the most special because they capture that joyful vacation feeling: sandy toes, warm light, and everyone together.
Don’t Miss the Chance to Capture Your Southwest Florida Vacation
Southwest Florida is beautiful in every season, but spring break really does bring an extra kind of energy to the beaches.
If you’re planning a visit and would love to capture your time here with family photos on Fort Myers Beach or nearby beaches, I’d love to meet you.
Sunset sessions are limited this time of year, so it’s always best to plan ahead.
Because vacations come and go…
but the photos from them last forever.
