There are so many things that make South Seas Resort on Captiva Island special for a destination wedding. I've been a part of dozens of weddings at South Seas and there are a few things that make this tropical island wedding destination one of the best in Florida. The fact that it is on an island definitely makes it a little more secluded and Captiva Island in general is known for being a little more quiet with less traffic (except for the occasional golf cart or trolley slow down!). Long stretches of beach with remote spots for wedding ceremonies are perfect if you are looking for something private. Beautifully maintained lawns overlooking the water make a great spot for a "no sand in your shoes" wedding ceremony or a picturesque reception site with sunset views. And the fact that these spots all are on the grounds of the hotel so no guests have to drive anywhere and your party can go into the night without a worry all make this an ideal destination wedding location.
I've photographed weddings in tropical destinations around the world. The Bahamas, St. Lucia, Barbados are all amazing too. I had my own wedding in the Bahamas, so I'm definitely a fan of the islands. The fact that guests don't need a passport to get to Captiva Island though (which is equally as stunning) is a plus. The other thing that I know from my own experience planning a tropical destination wedding is that finding wedding vendors can be a challenge when you are planning for some of the Caribbean Islands. I've traveled as the wedding photographer for lots of Caribbean wedding events, but the florist, band, DJ, hair, make-up etc. are a little more challenging. Southwest Florida is very fortunate to be a hub of some of the best wedding professionals I've known anywhere. With these great vendors all accessible to Captiva Island, you have the feel of a remote island get-away without having to accept the services that are only available on a remote island!
Here are a few pictures from Nicole and Julian's South Seas Resort wedding. The couple tied the knot in a very romantic seaside ceremony with an outdoor dinner reception to follow. Their November wedding was the perfect time of year for an outdoor event!
